Cruise control is a driver-assistance feature that automatically maintains a set vehicle speed without requiring the driver to keep pressing the accelerator pedal. It is especially useful on long highway journeys, helping reduce driver fatigue and improve driving comfort.

How Cruise Control Works

  1. Driver Sets a Speed
    • Once the vehicle reaches the desired speed (usually above 30–40 km/h), the driver presses the SET button.
  2. Electronic Control Unit (ECU) Takes Over
    • The vehicle’s ECU monitors the current speed using speed sensors.
  3. Automatic Throttle Adjustment
    • If the vehicle slows while climbing a hill, the ECU increases throttle.
    • If it speeds up while going downhill, the ECU reduces throttle. In many vehicles, braking is still required if gravity causes the vehicle to exceed the set speed.
  4. Maintains Constant Speed
    • The system continuously adjusts engine power to keep the vehicle close to the selected speed.
