How Refrigerators Work
A refrigerator keeps food fresh by removing heat from inside the fridge and releasing it outside. It doesn’t create cold air—instead, it continuously transfers heat using a special fluid called a refrigerant.
How a Refrigerator Works
1. Compressor
The compressor is the “heart” of the refrigerator.

2. Condenser Coils

The cold refrigerant enters the evaporator coils inside the refrigerator and freezer.
- Absorbs heat from the food and the air inside
- Evaporates back into a gas
- Cools the refrigerator compartment
5. Cycle Repeats
The refrigerant returns to the compressor, and the process repeats continuously to maintain the set temperature.
