How to Connect Google Analytics with PrestaShop
Google Analytics 4 (GA4) helps you understand how visitors find and use your PrestaShop store. You can track visitors, traffic sources, product views, add-to-cart activity, purchases, revenue, and conversions.
PrestaShop has a Google Analytics module that supports GA4 integration. (PrestaShop Project)
1. Create a Google Analytics Account
Go to Google Analytics and sign in with your Google account.
- Click Admin.
- Create an Account if you don’t already have one.
- Create a Property for your PrestaShop store.
- Select Web as the data platform.
- Enter your website URL.
- Enter your website name.
- Create the Web Data Stream.
Google creates a Measurement ID for the web stream. It normally starts with G-, such as G-XXXXXXXXXX. (Google for Developers)
2. Install the Google Analytics Module in PrestaShop
Log in to your PrestaShop Back Office.
Go to:
Modules → Module Manager
Search for:
Google Analytics
Depending on your PrestaShop version, the module may appear as Google Analytics or ps_googleanalytics. PrestaShop documentation lists ps_googleanalytics as the Google Analytics module. (PrestaShop)
Click:
Install
If the module is already installed, open its configuration page.
3. Enter Your Google Analytics ID
Open the Google Analytics module configuration.
Enter your GA4 Measurement ID, for example:
G-XXXXXXXXXXMake sure you enter the Measurement ID, not the Google Analytics account ID or Stream ID.
Save the configuration.
4. Enable Ecommerce Tracking
For an online store, Google Analytics should track more than simple page views.
Ideally, configure ecommerce events such as:
view_itemadd_to_cartbegin_checkoutadd_shipping_infoadd_payment_infopurchase
Google’s GA4 documentation specifically supports ecommerce events and parameters such as product information, currency, value, and quantity. (Google for Developers)
This allows you to analyze:
Product → Add to Cart → Checkout → Purchase
rather than just seeing how many people visited your website.
5. Clear PrestaShop Cache
After configuring the module, clear the PrestaShop cache.
Go to:
Advanced Parameters → Performance
Then click:
Clear Cache
This is useful if the Analytics code doesn’t immediately appear on the storefront.
6. Test Google Analytics
Open your website in a new browser window.
Then open:
Google Analytics → Reports → Realtime
Visit several pages on your PrestaShop website.
You should see your visit appear in the Realtime report.
Google Analytics automatically collects page views when the Google tag is correctly installed. (Google for Developers)
7. Check Your Ecommerce Data
After customers begin using the store, check:
Reports → Monetization → Ecommerce purchases
You can analyze:
- Product views
- Add-to-cart events
- Checkout activity
- Purchases
- Revenue
- Product performance
- Shopping behavior
For reliable ecommerce reporting, make sure your PrestaShop integration sends the appropriate GA4 ecommerce events and parameters. (Google for Developers)

Google Analytics ReportsImportant Tips
Don’t install Analytics twice
Avoid adding the GA4 tracking code manually to your theme if the PrestaShop Google Analytics module is already inserting it. Otherwise, you can create duplicate page views and ecommerce events.
Use Google Tag Manager when you need advanced tracking
If you want to track additional actions such as:
- Button clicks
- Form submissions
- WhatsApp clicks
- Phone clicks
- Newsletter signups
- Custom conversions
- Google Ads conversions
Google Tag Manager can provide more flexibility than a basic Analytics installation.
Check consent/cookie settings
If your store uses a cookie-consent system, make sure your Analytics implementation respects the consent settings applicable to your visitors.
PrestaShop 9.2
PrestaShop 9.2 was released on September 30, 2026, so if you’re using the latest PrestaShop version, check module compatibility before installing or updating a third-party Analytics module. (PrestaShop Project)
Conclusion
Connecting Google Analytics 4 to PrestaShop allows you to monitor your store’s traffic and understand what visitors do before making a purchase. For an ecommerce store, the most useful setup is one that tracks both website traffic and ecommerce events, so you can measure the complete customer journey from product view to purchase.
