How to Connect Google Search Console with PrestaShop

Connecting Google Search Console (GSC) to your PrestaShop blog allows you to monitor Google indexing, search traffic, keywords, clicks, impressions, and SEO problems.

The process is straightforward: verify your domain → submit your sitemap → inspect your blog URLs → monitor indexing.

1. Create or open Google Search Console

Go to Google Search Console and sign in with your Google account.

Click Add property.

You normally have two choices:

  • Domain – recommended because it covers the entire domain, including HTTP/HTTPS and subdomains.
  • URL prefix – verifies only the specific URL you enter.

For example:

https://www.example.com/

If possible, use the Domain property.

2. Verify your PrestaShop website

For a Domain property, Google generally asks you to add a DNS TXT record.

For example:

Type: TXT
Host: @
Value: google-site-verification=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Add this record at your domain/hosting provider.

Then return to Google Search Console and click Verify.

If DNS verification is inconvenient, URL-prefix verification can also use methods such as an HTML file or HTML meta tag.

3. Make sure your PrestaShop blog pages can be indexed

Your blog articles need to be accessible to Google.

Check that:

  • Blog articles are publicly accessible.
  • They don’t contain a noindex directive.
  • They aren’t blocked by robots.txt.
  • Each article has a unique URL.
  • The article has a canonical URL.
  • Internal links point to your blog articles.

PrestaShop’s current documentation also recommends clean/simplified URLs and paying attention to canonical URLs and 404 errors. (PrestaShop Help Center)

For example:

https://www.example.com/blog/how-to-improve-prestashop-seo

is preferable to a complicated URL containing unnecessary parameters.

4. Create or check your XML sitemap

This is particularly important for a PrestaShop blog.

Depending on your PrestaShop setup and blog module, your sitemap may look something like:

https://www.example.com/1_index_sitemap.xml

or:

https://www.example.com/sitemap.xml

Don’t guess the sitemap URL. Open your sitemap in a browser first and confirm that it loads.

PrestaShop provides an XML/HTML Sitemap Generator module that can generate sitemaps for products, categories, CMS pages and other pages, and it can also be configured with a cron task to keep the sitemap updated. (PrestaShop Help Center)

If your blog module has its own sitemap, make sure the blog URLs are included.

5. Submit the sitemap to Google

In Search Console:

Indexing → Sitemaps

Enter only the sitemap path, for example:

sitemap.xml

Then click Submit.

Google will process the sitemap and report its status.

A sitemap helps Google discover URLs; it does not guarantee that every URL will be indexed. PrestaShop similarly describes a sitemap as a way to help search engines discover and index the site’s URLs. (PrestaShop Help Center)

6. Submit individual blog articles

After publishing an important article, you can use URL Inspection in Search Console.

Enter:

https://www.example.com/blog/your-article

Google will show whether the URL is indexed.

If it isn’t indexed and the page is eligible, click:

Request Indexing

Google notes that crawling and re-indexing can take time; requesting indexing doesn’t mean the page will immediately appear in search results. (Google for Developers)

7. Check your blog’s indexing

In Search Console, go to:

Indexing → Pages

Look for:

  • Indexed
  • Not indexed
  • Crawled – currently not indexed
  • Discovered – currently not indexed
  • Page with redirect
  • Duplicate/canonical issues
  • 404 errors

This is very useful for a PrestaShop blog because you can identify articles that Google has discovered but hasn’t indexed.

8. Optimize each PrestaShop blog article

For every article, I recommend having:

SEO Title

Meta Description

Learn how to optimize PrestaShop for SEO, improve indexing, create SEO-friendly URLs, and increase organic search visibility.

SEO-friendly URL

/blog/prestashop-seo-guide

H1

Also use relevant H2/H3 headings, internal links, optimized images and descriptive image alt text.

PrestaShop’s documentation specifically provides SEO fields for content pages including title tags, meta descriptions, simplified URLs and search-engine indexing settings. (PrestaShop Help Center)

9. Add Article structured data

For a blog, Article structured data can also be useful.

Your article pages can contain structured data describing information such as:

Article
├── headline
├── image
├── author
├── datePublished
├── dateModified
└── publisher

Google recommends validating structured data and using URL Inspection to check how Google sees the page. (Google for Developers)

10. Monitor your blog traffic

After Google begins collecting data, go to:

Performance → Search results

You can see:

MetricMeaning
ClicksVisitors coming from Google
ImpressionsHow often your pages appeared
CTRPercentage of impressions that generated clicks
Average positionAverage Google search position
QueriesKeywords people searched

You can also filter by Pages and select your blog URLs to analyze the blog separately.

Important: You don’t need to install Google Search Console “inside” PrestaShop. Search Console is connected to your website/domain, while your PrestaShop blog’s sitemap and individual URLs are submitted/monitored through Search Console.
