How to Set Up Shipping in PrestaShop

Setting up shipping correctly in PrestaShop involves configuring carriers, shipping zones, prices, weight ranges, and delivery options.

1. Go to Shipping Settings

Log in to your PrestaShop back office:

Shipping → Carriers

This is where you create and manage the delivery methods available to customers.

2. Create a Shipping Carrier

Click Add new carrier.

Enter the basic information:

  • Carrier name: e.g. DHL, FedEx, India Post, Local Delivery
  • Transit time: e.g. 2–5 business days
  • Speed: Choose a speed rating
  • Tracking URL: Add the carrier’s tracking-page URL if available

Then click Next.

3. Select Shipping Zones

Choose the geographical areas where the carrier will deliver.

For an Indian store, you might create/use zones such as:

  • India
  • Maharashtra
  • Delhi
  • Karnataka
  • Other states
  • International

The exact zone structure depends on how you want to calculate shipping charges.

4. Set Shipping Prices

PrestaShop can calculate shipping based on price or weight.

For example, you could create:

Order ValueShipping
₹0–₹999₹99
₹1,000–₹1,999₹59
₹2,000+Free

Or use weight:

WeightShipping
0–1 kg₹60
1–2 kg₹90
2–5 kg₹150
5–10 kg₹250

Choose the appropriate pricing method when configuring the carrier.

5. Configure Weight Ranges

If you charge based on package weight, go to:

Shipping → Preferences → Weight ranges

Create ranges such as:

  • 0–1 kg
  • 1–2 kg
  • 2–5 kg
  • 5–10 kg
  • 10–20 kg

Then assign the appropriate price to each range for your carrier.

6. Configure Free Shipping

You can offer free shipping based on your business rules.

For example:

Free shipping above ₹2,000

Check the shipping preferences and carrier configuration for the free-shipping threshold.

A common ecommerce setup is:

Orders below ₹2,000 → ₹99 shipping
Orders ₹2,000 and above → Free shipping

7. Check Product Weight

Shipping calculations based on weight require each product to have a correct weight.

Go to:

Catalog → Products → Select Product → Shipping

Enter the product’s:

  • Weight
  • Package dimensions, if required

For example:

Weight: 0.75 kg

If product weights are missing or incorrect, weight-based shipping may produce unexpected charges.

8. Test Shipping at Checkout

After saving your carrier, place a test order.

Check:

Product → Cart → Address → Shipping

Verify that:

  • The correct carrier appears
  • The correct shipping price is displayed
  • The correct delivery time is shown
  • Free shipping works when applicable
  • The carrier is available for the customer’s location

Example Indian setup

For a basic Indian PrestaShop store, you could configure:

Carrier: Standard Delivery
Zone: India
0–1 kg: ₹60
1–2 kg: ₹90
2–5 kg: ₹150
₹2,000+ order: Free shipping
Delivery: 3–7 business days

For courier services such as Shiprocket, Delhivery, Blue Dart, DTDC, DHL, etc., you may need a compatible PrestaShop module/API integration rather than manually creating every shipping rate.

If you tell me your PrestaShop version (8 or 9), I can give you the exact step-by-step settings for Indian shipping, including GST, COD, free shipping, and courier charges.
