How They Work

LED Display

  • Uses a layer of liquid crystals (LCD).
  • A panel of LEDs behind the screen provides the light.
  • The LCD controls how much light passes through each pixel.
  • Because the backlight is always on, blacks can appear slightly gray.

OLED Display

  • Every pixel produces its own light.
  • Pixels displaying black switch off completely.
